netTrekker's Teacher Tools

netTrekker is loaded with tools collected especially with teachers in mind. These include links to national teacher associations, education news sources, professional development, classroom resources, and state and provincial educational resources, as well as many other helpful sites for educators.

Teacher Tools
Here's how to access Teacher Tools:

  • Select Teacher Tools
Click "Teacher Tools," located in the Features toolbox, found at the right side of the page. The specific Teacher Tools results vary depending on whether you access Teacher Tools from Elementary, Middle or High. The resources in each area have been chosen for their usefulness to teachers of that grade level.

  • Note To the right of each topic a number appears. These numbers indicate how many websites can be found at that topic (including all subtopics).
    Continue to Drill Down
Read through the list, and then drill down by clicking the topic that most closely relates to your area of interest.

      Example:
      Teacher Tools

Continue to click topics and sub-topics, drilling down until you reach the specific type of content you are looking for.

A "bread crumb" trail of the topics you select, called a taxonomy string, is displayed at the top of the page. To return to a broader topic area, click the corresponding link within the taxonomy string.

      Example of a Taxonomy String:
Teacher Tools > Technology in the Classroom > Resources for Special Needs> > Learning Disabled

  • Note

Click More to see a full search result on that topic, including full evaluations and additional websites.

    Getting a Search Result
As you are drilling down, many times a bar, titled "Sites," appears below your topic area. Here you will find a list of websites directly related to your topic.

Note Italicized words always indicate a search result.
If you continue to drill down, eventually you will not be able to go any farther, and the Search Results page is then displayed. This page lists websites on the selected topic. Each website listed has been rated and briefly described.

For more information on the rating symbols or icons used in each Search Result, double click on one of the icons to see the netTrekker Legend.

  • Viewing a Website
Click one of the links from the "Sites" bar or the Search Results page to go to that website. Note that the site opens in a different window so that you can keep the netTrekker Search Results page available.

If your Teacher Tools search resulted in more than one page of search results, use the page number links of "next >" and "< previous" links at the bottom of the Search Results page to move from page to page.
